Hi, I'm Stacy Burgess

Artist | Designer | Maker | Teacher

Handmade ceramics, mixed-media art and creative workshops inspired by the natural world.

I am a ceramic artist and mixed-media maker living on the South Coast of NSW. I create work by hand using simple tools, natural inspiration and techniques I have gathered since childhood. My practice blends ceramics, drawing, painting and printmaking and reflects the places, memories and environments that have shaped me.

My Journey

I grew up in the UK where I spent most of my time creating, experimenting and learning from teachers, friends & family.

Over the years I tried every art form I could access. Many of the practical and creative skills I learned early on still guide my work today.

After school I studied Art and Design then completed a BA in Ceramics and Glass. I followed this with a teaching qualification which led me into a long career in art education. Teaching became my profession, but making art remained the thing that grounded and fulfilled me.

Since moving to the South Coast of NSW in 2015 I have felt at home. The land, light and coastline continue to shape my work. Nature is a constant influence, whether it is the rhythm of the ocean, the colours of the escarpment or the texture of weathered rock.

How I Work

My process is hands on and intuitive. I build, sculpt and shape each piece using my hands and simple tools. I avoid machines where I can because I value the imperfections, variations and traces of touch that give handmade work its character. Texture, pattern and memory guide me and I allow materials to lead the way. Clay, paint and natural pigments help me capture the feeling of a place or moment.

Why I Make Art

Art helps me slow down and pay attention. It is a way to honour the landscapes I love, the memories I carry and the joy of working with my hands. I hope my work brings a sense of calm, curiosity and connection to those who live with it.

Teaching and Workshops

I run workshops for adults and children across a range of mediums. I believe creativity lives in everyone. My workshops are supportive, relaxed and focused on exploration rather than outcomes. I guide each person at their own pace and help them discover confidence in their own creative voice. Whether it is ceramics, drawing or mixed media, my goal is for participants to leave feeling inspired and capable.

You can browse through my collections to see the pieces that shape my practice, discover what’s currently available to purchase, or see where I’ll be teaching, exhibiting, or attending markets next. I love sharing the stories, colours, and landscapes that inspire my work, and I hope you enjoy wandering through them as much as I enjoy creating them.

Interested in a commission?

If you’re interested in a commission, I’m always open to discussing new ideas. Whether you have a clear vision or just a feeling you want translated into clay or ink, I’m more than happy to talk it through and see what we can bring to life together.

Get in contact so we can create something incredible together!

I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and create, the Dharawal people. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

I recognise the deep and ongoing connection to land, sea and culture, and acknowledge that this always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
